Our Victorian House - jangold

Lee and I live in an old Victorian house. You can see the sign that sits between ours and next door where the row of 4 houses is called Coronation Cottages. These 4 hours were built in 1902 and before. They are called Coronation Cottages because in 1902 Edward VII had his coronation after Queen Victoria died in 1901. The coronation however, was originally delayed due to the King having an appendicitus the day before the planned coronation. In those days I believe houses like ours were built together, the 1st being completed and then the family of the builder moving in there whilst the 2nd was built. The family moved again and the 3rd was started. Although they look the same from the outside it was a tradition to change individual characteristics inside. The 1911 census has now been released so I am going to see (with the 1901 census) who lived in these houses and what they did. Hope you enjoy the history from my little part of the world. Jan

Outside and Inside. PoliXena

I live in front of a lovely -not too big- square wich is very nice. I have a great view of it from my living-room and also from my terrace. It´s quite old and there are only ten buildings or so around it, one of them is mine.

I live on the second floor and I can almost touch the wonderful tree wich grows up there. (In fact, there are three: one on my side and two on the opposite side)

It is a big -and strong- Indian Laurel and it´s really beautiful. It´s such a pleasure to rise the blinds and look at it and hear all the tiny birds wich live there... and the light is fantastic. Have a nice day, X. xxxx

The way the collages are done back home. PoliXena

These are some photos of the wall of my mother´s bedroom. She has made a sort of collage using some of the cards that we (her closest family and friends) have sent her during last years.

Actually, it´s a work in progress because she continues adding things. There are Christmas cards, birthday cards, some photos, cards from our travels, tiny gifts etc.

She started years ago with a few pieces but now she has covered almost the whole wall. She is 84 years old (I´m her youngest daughter, and I have for sisters and two brothers much older than me) and she has always done things like this... she has a nice creative energy, I hope it lasts many years more. Have a nice week dear friends. Good night X. xxxx

More of my little town

This is an artist's picture of the restaurant I went to today - it is very well composed and very accurate. You can see from this even, that there was a little part and then the two windowed old paint shop. I love the detail this girl puts in - even the owners car at the front and of course the cat on the roof ! The shop next door deals with violins and you can even see the guy's (another old school pal) notice outside. Anyway just thought you would like to see more of my little town. You can play one of my fav songs with this

Everyday Objects - jangold

Morning girls ! How many times do we pass something in a day and take no notice of them yet when they are not there we miss them. I'm posting something from my dining room sideboard today as my everyday object which I must walk-by 50 times a day - yet rarely take any notice of. What are your everyday objects?

Cat's Corner - jangold

At the weekend Lee, my hubby decided to cut back the brambles growing over our wall towards our fence. We both love cats, but with our hectic lives we cannot justify having any pets at present, therefore we are 'foster home' to many cats from around our area. We have have a Summer house in the corner of the garden and cats love to go up there as it slopes towards a large bush so they can hide and be cool in the shade. In these cooler times they love to lie further out though and soak up the heat held in by the roof. Anyway, all efforts were rewarded today as one of our favourites - 'Fluffy cat' we call him/her returned to the roof to appreciate the sunshine. I wonder how long before the rest start fighting for this piece of turf ? Jan

Pécs, my town

It is my town. I hope you like it.
Actually it is a very beautiful city and I realized it only when I was searching for pictures about it on the net. I have to confess that I don't really like living here. I think it is due to the not so pleasant memories...
If everything is going fine I'll move to the capital city in some month to start working and start living there but before that I have to finish my exams here. (I know, I should study hard now, but instead, I'm here.. Bad girl :))

Love, Coco
